Since 1967 Ron Merk has been an independent film and television producer, director, writer, song lyricist and distributor. In addition to making his own films, Ron has imported foreign films including Antonioni’s La Notte, created merchandising under license from Warner Bros Studio and multimedia for the Broadway show OH! CALCUTTA! His award-winning animated feature, MARCO POLO – RETURN TO XANADU is now in worldwide distribution by Lionsgate Films.
Ron has film collections at UCLA, the Museum of Modern Art (NY) & The Library of Congress. His activity in film preservation is well known throughout the motion picture industry.
Ron is developing a Broadway stage musical adaptation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first film, HERCULES IN NEW YORK, for which Ron is writing the script and song lyrics. Premiere Pictures International, Inc. is currently developing a number of feature film and televisions projects created by Ron, including both animated and live-action films, as well as reality and dramatic television programs.
Ron is currently developing three important documentary projects:
- “Reaching for the Stars,” a series of 13 one-hour episodes about mankind’s fascination with the stars and ultimately their ability to leave earth’s gravity and journey towards the heavens. (add link to NASA flyer) (link to page)
- “Home Movies: An Intimate Look at Ourselves,” a series of 13 half-hour episodes about the history of home movies and how they have influenced the way we see ourselves and each other. (link to page)
- “Hooray for Hollywood!” A feature documentary tracing the history of the motion picture industry and the eight Jewish immigrants who created this city of dreams that still significantly influences the world today. (link to page)
- “This Was George” A one-hour documentary about a close friend of Ron’s who passed in 1994 at the height of the Aids Crisis, leaving behind a truly inspired body of work but whose paintings have never enjoyed the respect and public affirmation they deserve. His life is truly a metaphor for the struggle of the artist in society.
Ron is also developing a science fiction comedy entitled “Harvest,” which follows the exciting and hysterical adventures of a group of Latino friends who save the world from an alien invasion.
